Lewis McVay was a member of the Jesus music group Mustard Seed Faith, and he wrote the title song to that band's classic album Sail on Sailor. Like his partner in Mustard Seed Faith, Oden Fong, he made a couple of solo albums after the group disbanded. McVay has a highly melodic voice, and his Spirit of St. Lewis album features midtempo rock songs and folk ballads.
Christian music progressed considerably as a genre by the time McVay made Coming Attractions, and the sophomore project displays a much more aggressive sound.
For a time, Lewis headed Calvary Chapel's Asaph record label. As of 1998, he was performing as the character Tigger at Anaheim's Disneyland.
