Jonathan Singh

Genre:
Pop

Jonathan Singh is a multi-faceted singer/songwriter, musician and worship leader, known for his cross-cultural style, fusing elements of Christian Contemporary, Pop and Caribbean music. He is emerging as a standout artist and creative composer in the Christian music world, making his mark as a dynamic inspiration through the message of life’s voyage with God’s love.

Music has always paved the road of Jonathan’s spiritual journey. Raised in Queens, New York, he was born to musically talented Trinidadian parents who pastored their own church and rooted their family in faith and music. Since the early age of five, Jonathan played the drums for his family’s church and eventually picked up the guitar, bass and piano.

As he grew into adolescence, Jonathan continued to play at church while attending a performing arts school, adding the alto sax to his instrumental repertoire and playing in the school’s jazz and orchestra bands. Not only was he naturally growing in his musicianship but an experience of difficult family turmoil also fueled him to endeavor into writing and creating music of his own.

At just 16, Jonathan was given the opportunity to try his vocal chops at a youth camp in Upstate New York, when by chance he was asked to fill in for a worship leader. “It wasn’t great, but it wasn’t horrible,” he laughs. It was that modest, unintended “step-in-and-step-up” opportunity that led Jonathan to the spiritual path God was calling him to walk.

Excited by his new-found love for public singing, Jonathan delved into his songwriting and decided to form a band. Together, they led local worship events, performed for churches and were featured at youth camps. A singer himself and confident in his son’s talent and ambition, Jonathan’s father invested in the band’s first studio-recorded demo. The record was a local hit and seemed to set the band on pace for eminent fame, but God had other plans for Jonathan.

Something was missing. The fast tracked life and money-driven success, along with a progressed resentment for the pressures of being a “pastors’ kid”, snatched Jonathan’s zeal for the band and left him burned out. To bring matters to a head, Jonathan was involved in a terrible car accident, which brought him to a crossroad—a realization that he needed something else.

He’d lost everything, so he believed. Searching for a change, Jonathan left New York and headed for Orlando, Florida with only his clothes and his instruments. He was met with a new atmosphere, a slower pace, new perspective and a revelation. Nothing was going to be handed to him. There was no circle of family to pick him up when he fell. There was no special treatment. If Jonathan was going to make something of himself, he’d have to earn it.

He attended a local church in Orlando, sitting in the back pews for a time. There he wrestled with his past, his present and found his own belief and relationship with God. Eventually he joined the church band, playing guitar and piano. His work with the band ultimately led him to become Youth & Worship Pastor where he led for eight years. Along the way, Jonathan was happily reunited with his high school sweetheart Christine. The couple married in 2007, welcomed their beautiful son Jacob in 2008 and moved to Texas to be near family.

Still writing and producing his own music, Jonathan released his first independent project in 2013, Here to Stay--an EP created with Producer Jack Shocklee (known for his work with TobyMac and Group 1 Crew among others) featuring Dove Award Nominee Beckah Shae and Grammy Nominee Benjah.

Jonathan continues to write, produce and craft new music for artists while maintaining his rising career and growing following. Today he is a full time Worship Leader at Sugar Creek BaptistChurch in Sugarland, Texas and performs for varied audiences, sharing his spiritual journey with the world through music. He is managed by Christopher “Cruize” Williams of BPM Management and has recently partnered with Save The City Records to release his new full-length studio album, City.Love.Music, which is slated for release May 2015. The First single "You Stay" can now be streamed on Spotify.
