Michael Tait Announces Departure from Newsboys

Michael Tait shocked fans today by announcing on his socials that he is stepping down as the lead singer of the Newsboys. Both Tait and the Newsboys shared messages online about his departure.
"Fifteen years ago, my life was forever changed when I received the invite to step into the role of lead singer for Newsboys. The years since have been some of the most fulfilling, faith-filled, and rewarding years of my life."
Tait replaced former Newsboys lead singer Peter Furler in 2009. Since then, the band has released multiple albums, the most recent being Worldwide Revival (Pt. 1) in 2024. They were also featured in the God's Not Dead movies and are well known for their song "God's Not Dead."
Tait shared that he made this "monumental and heartfelt decision" after much prayer and fasting, which produced clarity that this was the right direction.
The band is scheduled to begin their Worldwide Revival Nights Tour this weekend, and despite heavily promoting the tour in promo videos shared by local radio and press, it appears Tait will not be joining the band on the road.
"We'll be kicking off our tour as planned," shared Newsboys. "We've got music to share and stories to tell, and as we navigate this season of change, we know that worshiping together is the way we want to move forward." The short statement was signed "NEWSBOYS, Duncan, Jeff, Jody, Adam."
The band's future is uncertain, but Newsboys is ensuring fans their mission will continue. "We are grateful for the extended season Michael has had with Newsboys," the band shared. "For now, we want you to know that Newsboys isn't going anywhere; we're going everywhere. The next chapter is just beginning! We believe that the best is yet to come."
Michael ended his statement by encouraging fans to continue supporting the Newsboys while his heart remains focused on spreading hope and love in everything he does. "Thank you for walking this journey with me," Tait closed. "I'm forever grateful."
