Gungor To Release Highly Anticipate GHOST UPON THE EARTH With Brash Music on September 20

Nashville, Tenn. - The GRAMMY ® nominated group, Gungor, will release their latest record, Ghosts Upon The Earth, on September 20. The follow-up to the critically acclaimed Beautiful Things project was composed as a full narrative celebrating both the beauty and frailty of existence.

Produced by the group’s namesake, Michael Gungor, Ghosts Upon The Earth was primarily written by Michael and his wife, Lisa, a featured vocalist in this musical collective. Recorded in numerous locations, including the Gungor’s home, the album includes seventeen players, four additional vocalists, a six-person string ensemble, and a boy’s choir. Inspiration for the album was orchestrated from Gungor’s weeklong meditation in Assisi, where he was inspired by the Saint’s view of the world, as well as from the birth of their daughter last year.

Ghosts Upon The Earth creates a musical odyssey for its listeners using lyrical metaphors and allegories, along with unique time signatures and distinctive instruments. Starting with a startling musical imagining of the creation of the universe and traversing subjects like the “fall of man” and the imperfection of our religious systems, the album leads the listener through a roller coaster of emotion that eventually leads us back to wonder and the thankfulness for this beautiful gift of life. Songs such as “Brother Moon,” “The Fall,” “You Are Beauty,” and “Every Breath” are placed in purposeful order to tell a full story in the 12-track album.

Ghosts Upon The Earth takes its mysterious title from an allegory by C.S. Lewis titled The Great Divorce, in which the “ghosts” of a grey town encounter a heaven that is astonishingly, even painfully, real. “Sometimes it seems like the most real thing is what we can see and experience with our senses around us – this life, the tangible,” explains Michael Gungor. “Ideas like love, like God, these things sometimes feel more disconnected and ethereal, like that’s the ghostly realm. This is turning it on its head, recognizing that God is real, love is real, and we are the ghosts walking upon the earth, wanting to become more real.”

Known for their innovative live performance, Gungor will take to the road with fellow GRAMMY ® nominees David Crowder*Band alongside John Mark McMillan and Chris August for “The 7 Tour.” This final leg of shows will mark the last tour for the David Crowder*Band, and will hit over 30 major markets this fall.
